The Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) at the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) in Atlanta recently selected Gavin P. Smith to join the Camp Lejeune Community Assistance Panel (CAP). Smith, founder of CivilianExposure.org, will serve on the CAP with other notable members under a mandate to build awareness, accountability and assistance for civilians exposed to decades of water and soil contamination aboard Camp Lejeune Marine base in NC.
The purpose of the CAP is to 1) voice the concerns of the affected community of marines and their families; and 2) provide input to ATSDR for future health studies. The community members on the CAP provide individual input and represent the views of the groups and communities to which they belong.
